Immigrants who are not yet U.S. citizens have special legal needs often requiring a criminal defense lawyer and an immigration lawyer. Fortunately our firm handles both. A U.S. citizen who pleads guilty to an offense, often to a lesser charge to prevent jail time, usually pays a small fine or obtains probation and returns home relieved not to serve jail time. For aliens, immigrants and even lawful permanent residents a guilty plea, resulting in a small fine or probation, can result in deportation or removal from the U.S.

A waiver or pardon is necessary which requires them to return to their home country for a minimum of a few months to submit the application. To be approved that person must prove extreme hardship to their U.S. citizen or lawful permanent spouse or parent.
